Question: TV shows promoting "designer dogs"?
( Back )
Answer #1:
If the word "cavoodle" is in a TV Show....I'm pretty sure that I wont be watching itI dont look at vets as specialist in dog breeds, anyhow....My vet is convinced that Murphy is a Chow mix b/c he has black spots on his tongue O_o
Answer #2:
Absolutely.I mean, how on earth can you guarantee the mix will not shed when it doesn't have a standard to conform to?? Bloody stupid.
I do NOT watch shows promoting mutts as purebreds.
Answer #3:
I certainly share your frustration and concern. However instead of such shows making you want to stop watching, they should inspire you to start writing letters to the producers and sponsors and anyone else who might be able to influence the content into a better direction.Answer #4:
Yes it does.... There are pure breeds that are good for people with allergies - not to mention all of the dogs in shelters that need good homes. These "designer dogs" are just a way for people to make money off of their pets without having to be a responsible breeder.Answer #5:
Mixed breed dogs happen to be exactly that, mixed breed dogs. It's not wrong to call a Cavalier etc./Poodle mix a "Cavadoodle," but it's certainly misleading. People come to believe that these dogs are real breeds and neglect the finely bred dogs and all the hard work breeders put into creating show or pet quality animals for mutts from the shelter. It's a shame.I'm not saying it's bad to adopt - in fact, I'm all for it. However, adopting a "designer dog" BECAUSE it is a "designer dog" gets on my nerves. A lot.
To directly answer your question, I would stop watching that show. There are plenty of hypoallergenic real dog breeds they could have used. The mutt from the shelter who just happened to be a hypoallergenic mix should have been displayed as a "mixed breed dog with hypoallergenic fur." NOT a "Cavadoodle." Because guess what? Now people looking for mutts will buy from pet shops who carry these mutts. And the pet shops buy from puppy mills, and it all winds back to stupid people supporting puppy mills.
That's my bit. Hope you enjoyed it.
Answer #6:
I hate it when shows push designer mutts...err I mean breeds. I used to love Dogs 101, but then they devoted a entire episode to the money mutts.Answer #7:
This totally disgusted me. When I see "designer dogs" coming into the shop, it drives me up the wall. You know exactly where they come from - puppy mills! They're bred from agony and greed. Same thing that is in a shelter, they're just given a cutesy name and said to be "hypo allergenic."I would never watch a show that gave thumbs up to designer dogs. Never, ever, ever.
Answer #8:
Yup.I see any mention of a designer mutt and the TV goes off.
Answer #9:
i just have to correct your, dander is not the main cause of allergies ... it could be saliva, dander, or fur/hair ... there is not one that is more allergenic than another and a person could be allergic to all three or one or a combination ... and it seems to me a "designer dog" in a shelter deserves a home just like any other mutt and a show about that is to me about finding a dog a home and not about any designer dog agenda ... i had a bichon crossed with a cocker spaniel and my friend who has an allergy to dogs was not allergic to him ... she had two crosses, a shitty poo and a lhasapoo, and those too she was not allergic too ... she is allergic to my jack russell and must take antihistamines to be around her ... so maybe some more research needs to be done on the combining of dogs to make pets that people with allergies could love and enjoy ... i probably would not have watched that show anyways but i would not turn if off because i suspected a designer dog subliminal message ...Answer #10:
Let me guess Dogs 101?** Powered by Yahoo Answers
